BIKEABILITY COURSES AT HALF TERM
The NCA are proud to announce a first for Bury Primary School pupils.
During February half term, our Instructors have organised a full week dedicated to Bikeability Cycle training.
FREE PLACES FOR SCHOOLS
We have a number of FREE PLACES available to Bury primary school children (children must attend a Bury school to qualify for a funded place).
Our places for Bury school children are completely free of charge and are available to children who have not had the opportunity to take part during term time at school.
The Bikeability Cycle camp is a two day road safety course for Bury school children in Year 5 and 6, designed to give them the confidence and ability to ride on quieter roads.
Your children are invited to join in a coached Level One session in order to achieve the first part of the award.
Starting within the beautiful surroundings of Philips Park in Whitefield; fully qualified NCA Cycle Training Instructors will cycle with the group, covering all the basics of Bikeability Level One. (Off road 2 hours)
After this assessment, our Bikeability registered instructors will advise you if your child isn’t quite ready for level two training. It might be that they may need more practice before moving to the on road training.
Once level One has been successfully completed, the children will move onto Level Two on road training. Utilising the quieter, residential roads outside Philips Park, the children are taught road positioning, signalling and road safety awareness. (On road 6 hours)
At the end of the two day course, the children will receive a Bikeability certificate and badge depending on which level they attained.

During Level 1 Bikeability training, you learn to control and master your bike. The training takes place in an environment away from cars or traffic – usually in a playground or closed car park.
During Level 2 training you will get out on the roads! Level 2 gives you a real cycling experience so that you are able to deal with traffic on short journeys such as cycling to school.
During Bikeability Level 3 training you will learn the skills to tackle more challenging roads and traffic situations. Level 3 training is often delivered one-to-one so can be tailored to your individual needs, such as your route to work or school.
Do you want your children to join in, but you’re not a Bury resident or attend a Bury primary school?
Do you want your kids to have a better understanding of how to handle their bikes or just be more confident on the roads?
This Bikeability Cycle Camp is for kids aged 6 to 16 years old only and costs only £20 for a one day course or £40 for for the two day course.
There are 3 levels to choose from (see below for further information):
Level one: Suitable from the age of 5 upwards
Level 2: Suitable from the age of 9 upwards (all children must have completed Level 1 first)
Level 3: Adults or more advanced cyclists can join in too and complete a Bikeability level 3 award
You need to have completed a level 2 award or be an adult cyclist for this one. Multi lane junctions, traffic lights and more advanced techniques are covered here.
