Holiday Cycle Camps

We’ve listened to what parents and children want so this year our holiday bike camps have changed slightly.

Our Seasonal Cycle Camps are all about trying different types of cycling, building up confidence and skill levels. Learn new skills, pick up tips, ride with Team NCA, try different types of cycling, play bike games and join in with races and skill tests.

The NCA teaches core cycling skills to thousands of school children each year so we know how to cover the basics – cycling is at the heart of everything NCA does. Here, basic skills are fused with cleverly designed games, skills and activities then mixed with rides in the park so that the emphasis is always on fun.

The camp is set in the beautiful surroundings of Philips Park in Whitefield, which itself is located in countryside adjacent to SUSTRANS Cycle Route 6.

The camp is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 3.30pm designed to fit in with parents.

Suitable for young people ages 8-13.

Book in whole week blocks for £120 or by individual days at £30 per rider.

In addition, we are now pleased to offer specific camps so children can build on their basic skill level. Maybe your child would like to learn more about Mountain Biking, try out our MTB camp or join our BLACK DOG MTB CLUB.

This was Bethany’s 3rd year at the holiday cycle camp, she loves it whatever the weather and would go every week if she could. Thanks again, see you next year.

FAQs

What should I bring?
  • A bike suitable for off road riding with two fully operational brakes.
  • Cycle helmet.
  • Waterproofs and a change of clothes.
  • A packed lunch and drinks.
  • Bikes and helmets can be purchased at a discounted rate.
Does my child need to be able to ride a bike?
Yes, your child needs to be able to ride before attending the camp. If they are new riders, who may need a little extra help, please let the staff know on arrival or when you book. Our staff will complete an assessment of rider’s skill level before any activities take place, to ensure your child is in the right group for their level of skill. We do also offer learn to ride coaching in both Bury and Blackburn.
Do I need to buy special equipment?

We do not expect parents to spend lots of money providing extra kit for children, so we have bikes and helmets to hire at a reduced cost for the day or week. However, It is preferable to bring your own along, as that is the bike your child will be using in the future and we can check it over for any faults when you arrive at the park. Also, we are keen to observe hygiene when it comes to loaned helmets so they will be sanitised before each use. You should think about providing adequate clothing for the weather conditions, waterproofs and a change of clothes is a good idea. We consider wearing a helmet is a must!

What happens if I’m delayed when picking my child up?

We appreciate that sometimes things can go wrong, which will delay you from arriving on time. Please contact our staff on any of the landline or mobile numbers if you are running late. Leave a voicemail or text message at the least, as children can become distressed if they don’t know what’s happening. We allow 20 minutes for late pick ups, after that time we make a small charge to cover extra childcare as our staff also have homes to go to.
