Urban Cycle Centre
Home of the NCA The Nationwide Cycling Academy is based in Philips Park, Whitefield M45 7QJ.
Our Instructors have been operating from the Urban Cycle centre for two years and are working in partnership with Bury Council, the Forestry Commission, GMWA and local community groups such as the Friends of Prestwich Clough in order to promote the area
Philips Park has a rich past, mixing family and local history with many of those features remaining today. Following footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes, the trails lead in to the Irwell Valley, a site leased and managed by the Forestry Commission. Hop onto Cycle Route 6 and ride into Bury town centre or through to Manchester city centre
The area is renowned for its grasslands, coppice woodlands and abundance of wild life. There's a river thrown in for good measure and you may even spot one of the local deer wandering on site
Being based at such a fantastic site, NCA is able to offer an amazing variety of exciting, interactive cycling activities to fit every lifestyle and every ability. Our aim is to promote cycling activities and training throughout the region, providing a quality service to all ages and all abilities. There is a classroom facility at the centre for indoor use, however, with such a beautiful site most of our activities take place outdoors!
So what is there to do at Philips? Cycling activities on offer include: Supervised family rides, maintenance courses, Cycle scheme for school holiday times, MTB training sessions, bike sales days, specialist courses for advanced riders & Instructors. In fact, if there's something you want to try out on bike, we can arrange it!
In addition, other options to try out at Philips are: A playground and free car parking area Picnic areas Countryside footpaths Fishing Bird watching Incredible Edibles Within the Countryside Centre: Willow Weaving, Bodging, Bat hunts, pond dipping, ranger guided walks, countryside play scheme, wild flower spotting Hit The North Race twice a year
