How long have you been racing downhill?
I have been racing downhill on and off for about 10 years since my early days at the Student Champs in 2001.
In 3 words, some up what you enjoy about riding...
freedom, excitement, relaxing (and just one more...my life and work!)
What bike are you riding this season?
Trek Session 88 with Rockshox Totems, Shimano Saint drive train and brakes.
What is the worst thing about riding?
Possibly the cost and impact on 'normal' life...and injuries, although I have been pretty fortunate on that front to date...touch wood!
Favourite or most inspirational rider and why?
Wade Simmons, Brett Tipie and Thomas Vanderham for freeride style and big lines. Sam Hill in racing terms for his all out speed, no fear attitude and winning ability on flats! And not forgetting Jason McRoy (R.I.P.) who inspired me to push my riding all those years ago...
What is your favourite place or track to ride and why?
I enjoy fast gnarly tracks, places like Hamsterly and Wharncliffe and any where with big jumps. In my spare time I also ride a lot of 'cross country / all mountain' natural trails and enjoy the challenge that nature provides not just the shovels of trail builders.
Other than cycling, what else do you get up to in your spare time?
Away from cycling I help out with a couple of bands 'Drink and Drive' and 'Dukowski' and occasionally do graphics work in this field promoting clubs, bands and events.
I am a keen cook and enjoy rustling up a good meal for my friends and girlfriend, my love of food also means I eat out a lot sampling a variety of cuisine and wines at restaurants.
Aims for the 2011 season?
To enjoy my riding and place well at events and promote NCA. Also to push my riding away form racing hitting bigger jumps and gaps.
Describe your riding style in 3 words...
Sketchy, big and (hopefully) fast!
The most important question yet... Clipless or Flats?
Flats for the win! Nah, I am too scared to clip in!!
